The first China-Uganda Expo (China-Uganda Industrial Capacity Cooperation Exposition) took place this July from 23rd to 26th with China Daily one of our supplier partners as a sponsoring partner for the event.
The expo was an initiative pushed by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) in collaboration with China Africa Development Fund, Uganda Investment Authority, and Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry with an aim to try to attract partnerships (joint ventures) and investment opportunities in Uganda in several economic sub sectors including engineering, machinery, energy and agriculture as well as automobiles.
Although this is the first time such an exposition was held in Uganda, its also the third in Africa after similar events were held in Kenya and Ethiopia in November and December 2018, respectively.
The China-Uganda Industrial Capacity Cooperation Exposition which attracted over 43 enterprises from 12 provinces and cities in China opened a door for the Ugandan investors and businesses alike to share their future goals with other Chinese companies and explore investment opportunities in Uganda.
The expo also acts as a platform for governments, businesses and trade circles between China and Uganda to work hand in hand, promote trade and investment to achieve mutual benefits.
According to Zhao Xiufen, the Chinese Ambassador to Uganda, the economic and commercial counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Uganda, “Uganda in 2018 ranked third in Africa as a destination of Chinese Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). The investment volume for the FDI from China to Uganda in 2018 was 270 million U.S. dollars.”
The expo also attracted several exhibitors from varied sectors which included infrastructure construction, machinery and equipment, minerals and metals, tourism and health.
Our team handed out complimentary copies of the China Daily Global Edition to all attendees during this three day event.
